This electronic chapbook is free. I'm not asking for any fees because this is an experiment in electronic publishing. As the sole author and creator, I retain all publication rights, however, you may feel free to share it with others, under the following conditions:
1. You may not sell either the electronic chapbook or any of the accompanying files;
2. You agree to leave intact the entire contents of the electronic chapbook, including this notice;
3. You copy all accompanying documentation; and,
4. You may not, under any circumstances, misrepresent The Seferiad as the work of anyone other than the original author.
This edition of The Seferiad was created using Museum 1.1 ™ , a shareware application which can be used to produce stand-alone documents which can then be read on any Macintosh. Also, it is small, and I didn't have to upload any accompanying reader application which might clutter up your hard drive. It has some limitations, as do all such applications at present, but I liked how The Seferiad turned out using it. Museum 1.1 ™ may be obtained from Rustle Laidman, P.O. Box 39A76, Los Angeles, CA 90039.
The Seferiad is a selection of short prose pieces and aphorisms, which are taken from a larger work-in-progress. On one level, it tells about a wise man who will not admit to being a wise man, and the relationship he has with his students. This is also an attempt to encapsulate a particular philosophical perspective, which is expanded upon in the larger work. Frankly, I have no idea how much appeal this will have to frequenters of the InterNet and the On-Line services! I've chosen to publish some of my work electronically largely because the current print market is glutted (and maybe just a little bit hidebound), and I'm more interested in getting my ideas out to people than I am in impressing academic critics (or making the best seller list along with the likes of Newt Gingrich and O.J. Simpson's lawyers, thank you).
This is the third in what will be a series of electronic chapbooks. You can also download a short story from the same work-in-progress, A Problem of Language , and my poetry chapbook, Al Shirim, from America On-Line or eWorld, and perhaps elsewhere by the time you read this. Al Shirim is also available in a traditional print edition.
Please let me know how you like this electronic chapbook, and where you found it!
